CALL FOR MATURE ENTRY APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2022-2023 ACADEMIC YEAR

The University of Malawi is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for admission into its mature entry programmes for the 2023-2024 academic year.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL APPLICANTS

Interested applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:

a) A Malawi School Certificate of Education or any equivalent O-Level qualification with at least 4 subjects passed with credit (6 subjects for some programmes) including ENGLISH and other subjects specified in (d) below.

b) A University of Malawi Diploma or, a relevant Diploma from affiliated programmes such as those offered by Domasi College of Education, Natural Resources College, Malawi College for Health Sciences, Theological College, St. John of God College or an equivalent Diploma from a recognised institution of higher learning.

A minimum of 2 years post-diploma relevant work experience in a field related to the programme applied for.

c) Applicants MUST also meet additional entry requirements for each programme as outlined in the table below:

2. Entry into Year 2: Students with A-Level or IGSCE qualifications with at least C grade in Geography, Mathematics and English plus any other three subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Computer Studies, Agriculture and Social Studies. However, depending on the strength of the A-Level they will be required to audit first year course. A-Level qualifications shall be interpreted as: A=5; B=4; C=3; D=2; E=1.


3. Entry into year 3: Based on 6 subjects passed with at least a credit at MSCE including Geography and Mathematics and a recognized diploma in Physical Planning, Education majoring in Geography, Environmental Studies, Land Administration, Transportation, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Ecotourism, Climate Change, Water Resources, or any other cognate disciplines of Geography and relevant work experience or any related qualifications from a recognised institution of higher learning.





c. Bachelor of Science - Geology

Entry into year 3: Based on 6 subjects passed with at least a credit at MSCE including Geography and Mathematics and a recognized diploma in Environmental Geology, Hydrogeology, Mining, Mineral Exploration, Remote Sensing, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Seismology, Climate Change, Geophysics, Geochemistry, or any other cognate disciplines of Geology and relevant work experience or any related qualifications from a recognised institution of higher learning.



d. Bachelor of Science - Food and Nutrition

2. Those who have successfully completed 2 or more subjects (including financial mathematics) of the UK, US, Australian or South African actuarial boards.


3. Holders of the Chartered Actuarial Analyst (CAA) qualification.


4. Professionals holding the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification or who have completed at least the first level of the CFA program (with an average pass of at least 65% in mathematics subjects).

Learners with a diploma in Statistics from the University of Malawi or from any other recognised institution shall be considered to start at 2nd year or later years of the programme on case by case basis considering the number of credits the candidates have accumulated as per the Malawi Qualifications Framework (MAQF) and UNIMA Qualifications Framework.

Candidates with the following qualifications shall be admitted into year two of study on mature entry  basis:  A  two-year  Diploma  with credit from the University of Malawi’s recognised institutions and having accumulated a minimum of 240 credit hours. The diploma should be in any of the following disciplines: Law, Security  Studies,  and  any Law Enforcement related Studies. Candidates should also have an MSCE with at least four credits, including English, Biology, Physical Science/Physics & Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates may be required to start from first year where necessary. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of two years progressive work experience in a Government of Malawi recognised law enforcement agency.
