Loans and finances

There are opportunities to obtain loans, grants and scholarships from various organisations and individuals including Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB. In addition, there are some NGO's and religious organisations to aid student's finances at the university.

Special needs students

We are also the only public university campus in Malawi enroling students with different types of special needs. There is a Special Needs Section which is housed in the ground floor of the main library building with facilities to increase access to learning materials for students with special needs.

UNIMA has a Director of Students affairs just for you. The Director and your personal tutor are the first points of contact on several non-academic matters requiring expert advice ranging from accommodation to social life in university and you can directly contact them.

Students Representative Council (SRC)

By becoming a student at University of Malawi, one becomes, by default, a member of SRC formerly called the Students Union of Chancellor College (SUCC). The primary mandate of the SRC is to ensure the welfare of students at University of Malawi, in their academic and social lives.

A team of three students from the University of Malawi’s School of Natural and Applied Sciences have been shortlisted in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Students’ Competition on the Benefits of Nuclear Sciences: GC67.

Physics student invents power backup system

Enoch Kachokola, a 4th Year Bachelor of Science in Electronics students, is one of the recent innovators, having recently invented what he calls a power backup system. The student is from the department of physics in the school of Natural and Applied Sciences.

Students applauded for excellence at global moot

Students from the University of Malawi recently participated the 15th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition, which took place at Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
