FIRST SEMESTER 2022-2023 ACADEMIC YEAR OPENING ARRANGEMENTS FOR UNIVERSITY OF MALAWI NEW AND CONTINUING STUDENTS
The University of Malawi wishes to inform its new and continuing students, parents/ guardians and the general public that opening arrangements for the first semester of 2022/2023 academic year are as follows:
OPENING DATES
The official opening date for the first semester of the 2022/2023 academic year is 13th August, 2022. However, specific categories of students are requested to take note of the specific dates indicated below:
8th – 12th August 2022 Orientation Week for new students in the following programmes:
All Year 1 generic;
Year 1 Law (LLB Honours);
Year 1 Diploma in Statistics;
Year 3 Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Cultural Studies);
Year 3 Bachelor of Arts (Human Resource Management);
All Mature Entry and Economic paying fee.
BEGINNING OF CLASSES
Classes for both new and continuing students shall begin from 15th August, 2022.
ADMISSION LETTERS FOR FIRST YEAR STUDENTS
First year students are advised to collect their admission letters from the University (in Mwambo Lecturer Theatre Lobby) or request for the same by emailing academic@unima.ac.mw. National Identity Card will be used to confirm identity of the students. For those who do not have the National Identity card, the Malawi National Examination Board Identity card may be used.
TUITION FEES & REGISTRATION
Students are advised to immediately start paying for tuition fees contribution through their specific individual 12-digit bank account number at any National Bank of Malawi branch or by using Mo626 platform. Students are further advised that the University does not accept any cash payment.
Tuition fee for generic students selected through National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) is MK350,000.00 per annum. Mature entry should refer to their admission letters for relevant fee structure. Tuition fee contribution is paid in full prior to registration or in two equal instalments at the beginning of each semester. In addition, all students are supposed to pay additional MK2, 000 for Student Union subscription through the same bank account at the beginning of the first semester.
Online registration will open from Friday, 13th August 2022. Students who fail to register within a period of two weeks from the offcial opening date shall have their admission revoked or withdrawn from the University.
APPLICATION FOR STUDENTS’ LOANS
Year 1 students wishing to apply for Student support through the Higher Education Students Loans Grants Board (HESLGB) should liaise with the Board on heslgbsecretariat@heslgb.com and apply for the support when the application window opens.
ACCOMMODATION
All students are reminded that admission is on non-residential basis. Therefore, students are encouraged to secure accommodation prior to the opening date.
