VACANCIES ACADEMIC AND CLERICALTECHNICAL STAFF POSITIONS

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions at Chancellor College:-

ACADEMIC POSITIONS

  1. Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in English Literature and Language (Contract)
    Applicants must have at least a Master’s Degree in English Literature with a minimum of two years teaching experience in two or more of the following fields: African Literature, Oral Literature, Malawian Literature, Shakespeare, Literary Theory
  2. Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in English Language
    Applicants must have at least a Master’s Degree in English Language/Linguistics or any related field with a minimum of two years teaching experience in two or more of the following areas: Comprehension and Essay Writing, Description of English, Modern Usage of English, Grammar.
  3. Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Law (Practical Legal Studies)
    The Successful candidate will be handling the following courses; Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Drafting, Clinical Legal Education, Taxation Law and Accounts. Applicants should have a Masters or Doctorate degree in law from a recognized university.
  4. Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Law (Foundational Law)
    The Successful candidate will be handling the following courses; Commercial Law, Private International Law, the Law of Contract and the Law of Business Organizations. Applicants should have a Masters or Doctorate degree in law from a recognized university.
  5. Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Professor Inorganic Chemistry
    Applicants should have a PhD/Msc Inorganic Chemistry.  Applicants who have experience in teaching and research at an institution of higher learning will have an added advantage.
  6. Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Professor in Economics
    Applicants should have a Master’s Degree or PhD in Economics from an institution recognised by the University of Malawi. The successful candidates will handling the following courses among others; Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Development Economics, Statistics for Economists, Money and Banking and International Trade.
  7. Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Professor in Public Administration
    Applicants should have a Master’s Degree or PhD in Public Administration/Management or Public Policy or Political Science from an institution recognised by the University of Malawi.  

Duties and responsibilities for academic positions

Successful candidates for academic positions will be undertaking the following duties:  

  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Conducting research in their area of specialisation
  • Participating in departmental, faculty, College and university wide committees
  • Being part of academic consultants within the broader areas of the department   

CLERICAL AND TECHNICAL STAFF POSITIONS

1. Great Hall Manager

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing the operation of the Great Hall and Little Theatre and their facilities, ensuring highest possible standards of service provision, repair and maintenance, presentation and cleanliness, licensing and safety and customer care.
  • Ensuring quality presentation of the Great Hall and Little Theatre as a first class and reputable venue to all users at every function.
  • Preparing budgets, business plan and strategic plan for the Great Hall and Little Theatre.
  • Ensuring that payment of fees is made in respect of all bookings placed in accordance with College’s financial procedures and guidelines.
  • Providing information and support to the Assistant Registrar on any areas of concern.
  • Acting as a key-holder for the Great Hall and Little Theatre and functioning as Duty Manager as required
  • Working with colleagues to ensure that effective communication exists between the Great Hall teams and all other areas, to ensure that seamless service is provided to customers
  • Acting as Health and Safety Manager for Great Hall and Little Theatre in accordance with the Safety Policy.  
  • Supervising, motivating and reviewing the performance of staff to ensure that targets are met and that all events and activities are adequately staffed.

Qualifications

Diploma in Electronics with a bias in audio visual equipment with three years relevant experience.      

2. Accountant (Fixed Assets)

 Duties and responsibilities

  • Extracting all acquired college/Center fixed assets necessary details  in liaison with Stores Officer
  • Ensuring proper recording of all acquired assets in Sage ACCPAC fixed asset module
  • Identifying assets for disposal in liaison with the College Board of Survey
  • Maintaining office asset schedules for all offices at the college
  • Tracing and recording all asset movements and make necessary asset location amendments
  • Preparing all fixed asset returns and reports for management use and audit purposes.
  • Facilitating annual fixed assets revaluations for statutory financial reporting purposes.
  • Qualifications 

Applicants should have a minimum qualification of a Diploma in accounting and 3 years experience in fixed asset management and accounting. He or she must be familiar with SAGE ACCPACC ERP accounting package

3. Stores Officer 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Controlling the stores operations by ensuring that all materials are properly handled and recorded (including receiving, locating and issuing)
  • Checking incoming materials, supplies and equipment against invoices, requisitions, orders, specifications and prices or other records
  • Maintaining stock/materials stocked in bins, racks and work areas in a neat, orderly, safe and sanitary condition
  • Maintaining  record of the amount, kind and value of items on hand
  • Maintaining control records showing stock on hand, stock on order and stock used during previous periods
  • Ensuring that stock checking programs (whether cyclical or adhoc) are maintained to the extent that physical inventory agrees with the accounting records
  • Co-coordinating with Fixed Asset Accountant and Procurement Officer on newly acquired fixed assets
  • Producing inventory schedules for audit purposes
  • Reconciling inventory clearing account
  • Reconciling suppliers prepayment account

Qualifications

Applicants must have a CIPS Diploma from a recognized institution plus relevant experience in computerized accounting.  Those with basic accounting knowledge will have an added advantage.  Experience in ACCPAC financial modules preferred.

4. Laboratory Technician (Chemistry)

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties

  • Preparation of laboratory classes
  • Provision of high level support to undergraduate, postgraduate, staff research projects and the Industrial Consultancy Unit
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the Department
  • Successful candidates should be prepared to work during evenings and weekends when need arises

Qualifications

Applicants should have a diploma in Laboratory Technology specialising in chemistry plus at least 2 years relevant experience
