ART A TOOL FOR SOCIAL IMPACT
A youthful Art Movement named Zaluso Arts has partnered with University of Malawi’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts (FPA) to implement a project aimed at providing a platform for citizens to dialogue, debate and engage on issues of national importance from their perspectives.
According to a communication which the two implementing partners jointly made, the project primarily targets the youth across the country.
The project called Zalero, Zaluso Arts and UNIMA students will be using various forms of art to democratize the access to information in order to promote active citizenship in Malawi.
Zaluso Arts and FPA will implement the project with funding from the Open Society for Southern Africa Initiative (OSISA).
The joint communication says one of the key components of the Zalero project is Zalero News, a community news and web series programme with three parts.
The communication further says the first part of Zalero News consists of a News anchor, the second part is a sketch comedy by UNIMA students and the last part carries a social commentary from members of the public.
Zalero News episodes will be uploaded every fortnight Mondays at 8 pm on Zaluso Arts social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and YouTube).
