UNIMA applauded for SAVE complex construction progress

The University of Malawi recently hosted officials from the National Steering Committee for the Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE), which comprises both government and non-governmental representatives. The team visited UNIMA on 23rd July 2025 and was led by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Mrs Chikondano Mussa, while the UNIMA delegation was headed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samson Sajidu.

The aim of the visit was to assess the progress of the ongoing construction of a teaching and learning complex, which is part of the SAVE project. The meeting covered various issues related to the construction. Mussa expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and commended the UNIMA Project Implementation Team, led by the Director of Students’ Affairs (DOSA), Dr. Jonas Mwatseteza, for the commendable work. She further noted that she had drawn valuable lessons from the site, which would be shared with other project sites.

The construction of the complex was officially launched on 16th April 2025. Currently, the project is 19% complete and is expected to be finalized by May 2026. Once completed, the complex will feature classrooms with a total capacity to accommodate 1,600 students.

During the meeting, Professor Sajidu also commended the Project Implementation Team for their excellent work and praised the contractors for maintaining high construction standards and progressing ahead of schedule.
