UNIMA Friends of Mchinji Motivates Students at Takondwa CDSS
On 13th June 2025, University of Malawi (UNIMA) Friends of Mchinji, both continuing students and alumni chapters, held a motivational event at Takondwa Community Day Secondary School (CDSS). The school is located deep in the rural area of Traditional Authority Kapondo. It was revealed that the visit by UNIMA Friends of Mchinji for motivational talks was the first of its kind at the school, and both teachers and students were excited about it.
According to Chifuniro Zulu, President of UNIMA Friends of Mchinji, the group has the main objective of motivating students, mainly those from Community Day Secondary Schools, in various ways, such as providing inspirational talks, and giving awards to female students who perform well. Moses Moe, who represented the UNIMA Alumni, also expressed satisfaction that they had managed to reach out to the CDSS. He highlighted the point that the group has already reached out to 9 other schools in previous events.
The event was aimed at encouraging students to remain focused on education, providing career guidance and discouraging ill behaviour among students. The students were encouraged to work hard in class and be disciplined to achieve high positions in society.
Speaking at the function, Mr. Samson Kantchere, Deputy Headteacher of Takondwa CDSS, expressed gratitude for the coming of the visitors. He stated that the students at the CDSS had received valuable lessons on planning for their studies, as well as balancing spiritual and academic life. “The promise to grant scholarships to high performing female students will definitely raise the competitive spirit in the classroom,” he said.
It was revealed during the function that the grouping will also continue to award best performing students from CDSS in the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE).
For the past two consecutive years, UNIMA Friends of Mchinji has awarded around 100 students who scored below 20 points, and most of them have been selected to public universities.
