Profile

Foster Gondwe holds a Ph.D. in Education from the Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation, Hiroshima University, Japan. He specializes in Educational Development, focusing on instructional technology, teaching and learning in higher education, international and comparative education, and teacher education and professionalization. At the University of Malawi, Foster teaches Instructional Technology to both undergraduate and postgraduate students and supervises undergraduate, Master's, and Ph.D. candidates. His research explores the intersection of Information Technology and Teacher Education, recognizing the essential role of teacher education in preparing educators to effectively integrate technology into their classrooms. Foster is the founder of the EdTech@UNIMA event, which began in 2023. This annual conference is designed to provide a platform for EdTech innovators to showcase their work and share it with a broader audience, aiming to position the University of Malawi as a thought leader in educational technology research and training in Malawi. He has presented his research at numerous local and international conferences, delivered invited talks, and published in both peer-reviewed journals and popular media. He is a member of the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE) and the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE). Additionally, he serves as the Book Reviews Editor for the Journal of Interactive Media in Education (JIME) at the Open University, UK.
