Profile

Dr Tawonga Mwase-Vuma is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Research at the University of Malawi, where he focuses on public health and society research. He has a clinical background in nursing and midwifery from Ekwendeni College of Health Sciences in Malawi. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Health from the University of Livingstonia (Malawi), a Master's degree in Public Health from The University of Nottingham (UK), and a PhD in Physical Activity and Public Health from the University of Strathclyde (UK). Before joining the University of Malawi in July 2018, Dr Mwase-Vuma served as a Lecturer at ShareWORLD Open University in Malawi. His research focuses on public health, particularly movement behaviour epidemiology (including physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep) and the measurement of physical activity in children and adolescents in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). He is also interested in non-communicable and emerging diseases in LMICs. Dr Mwase-Vuma serves as the Country Lead Investigator for two international collaborative research projects in Malawi: the SUNRISE International Study (https://sunrise-study.com/) and the Global Adolescent and Child Physical Activity Questionnaire (GAC-PAQ; https://gac-paq.com/).
