Profile
Limbika Maliwichi is a Senior Lecturer and a former Deputy Dean of Faculty of Social Science at the University of Malawi. She joined the Department of Psychology in 2005 as a Staff Associate and was promoted to the Lecturer position in 2009 after completing a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University with funding from the Fulbright programme. Limbika also holds a Master of Health Science from Johns Hopkins University-School of Public Health. Apart from teaching, she is an active member of the University of Malawi Research Ethics committee and an editorial Board Member for the Malawi Journal of Social Sciences. Limbika was a country lead on a WHO funded project piloting population level developmental indicators assessment that led to the development of the Infant and Young Child Development Indicators tool for WHO. Her research focus is on maternal, adolescent and child mental health. She is currently a co-investigator on two NIH funded longitudinal studies and one NRF funded project: • Evaluating a group-based intervention to improve mental health and ART adherence among youth living with HIV. • The impact of in utero HIV exposure on infant T and B cell responses and neurocognitive development in Malawi. • Covid-19 and mental health In addition, Limbika has a vast experience in training and supervising health workers administering different standardized neurodevelopmental and behavioural tests to children across Malawi and the region.
