Assistant Network Engineer
Applicants should have a BSc in Computer Science or BSc in Telecommunications or BSc in Information Technology.
Experience
At least 2 years work experience in a busy institution with a complex network. Those with experience in dynamic routing, fiber optic cables, wireless networks and DNS will have an added advantage
Responsibilities
-
establishing networking environment by designing network infrastructure, directing network installation, defining, documenting, and enforcing standards;

designing and implementing of new solutions and improving resilience of the current environment;

ensuring network efficiency by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages and scheduling upgrades
-
securing network systems by establishing and enforcing policies, and defining and monitoring access;
-
configuring of firewalls, support and administration of firewall environments in line with IT security policy;
-
configuring and management of DNS, DHCP and proxy servers
-
undertaking data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments, using information from multiple sources;
-
upgrading data network equipment to latest stable firmware releases;
-
configuring of routing and switching equipment;
-
Providing technical support to staff, students and visitors.

Any other duties as assigned from time to time.
