Assistant Network Engineer

Applicants should have a BSc in Computer Science or BSc in Telecommunications or BSc in Information Technology.

Experience

At least 2 years work experience in a busy institution with a complex network. Those with experience in dynamic routing, fiber optic cables, wireless networks and DNS will have an added advantage

Responsibilities

  • establishing networking environment by designing network infrastructure, directing network installation, defining, documenting, and enforcing standards;

  • designing and implementing of new solutions and improving resilience of the current environment;

  • ensuring network efficiency by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages and scheduling upgrades

  • securing network systems by establishing and enforcing policies, and defining and monitoring access;

  • configuring of firewalls, support and administration of firewall environments in line with IT security policy;

  • configuring and management of DNS, DHCP and proxy servers

  • undertaking data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments, using information from multiple sources;

  • upgrading data network equipment to latest stable firmware releases;

  • configuring of routing and switching equipment;

  • Providing technical support to staff, students and visitors.

  • Any other duties as assigned from time to time.
