About CRAFS & FIT-Hub
The Center for Resilient Agri-Food Systems (CRAFS) at the University of Malawi is a World Bank-funded initiative under the ACE II AF Project dedicated to advancing resilient agri-food systems through research, innovation, and collaboration. Under CRAFS, the Food Innovation and Technology Hub (FIT-Hub) fosters entrepreneurship and inventions in food product development and processing innovations while ensuring intellectual property protection.
Position Overview
We seek two motivated Interns (Incubation Officers) to support the FIT-Hub in nurturing entrepreneurs, facilitating research, and driving innovation in Malawi’s agri-food sector.
Qualifications & Requirements
Interested candidates should have a passion for food and technology, an innovative mindset, knowledge about intellectual property and patents, proactive attitudes, strong analytical skills, and teamwork.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related science or technical disciplines, Business Innovation, Intellectual Property Law, or other related fields,

Working knowledge of intellectual property (IP), patents, and commercialisation,

Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills,
-
Proactive, organised, and a team player with excellent communication skills,

Practical knowledge of food processing technologies and market trends in Malawi.
Key Responsibilities

Assist entrepreneurs in refining ideas and developing business plans,

Support R&D for new food products and technologies,
-
Conduct lab experiments, data collection, and market research,

Aid in prototyping, testing, and scaling food innovations,

Help organise workshops, demo sessions, and networking events,
-
Support IP protection and commercialization strategies,
-
Maintain databases of incubatees and stakeholders,
-
Any other responsibility as given by the FIT Hub team.
