LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR IN PETROLOGY/ GEOPHYSICS
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the post of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in petrology and geophysics (Geology) in the Department of Geography, Earth Sciences and the Environment (GESE) at the University of Malawi.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Petrologists are concerned with various aspects of rock types related to their distribution, structure, origin, history, and mineral content. Geophysics, on the other hand, is concerned with measurement of physical properties of rocks and the earth, together with their analyis and interpretation using mathematical models.
As part of expansion drive to address the evolving needs of the country’s geosciences sector, the department is looking for a suitably qualified candidate to work in the areas of petrology and geophysics for teaching and research in various areas of geology.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants for the Staff Associate position should possess a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in geology and geophysics passed with at least a credit and with any two of the following course combinations: Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics or Physics. The Bachelor’s Degree should be obtained from a reputable and accredited institution.

Applicants for the Lecturer position should have at least a Master of Science Degree in Geology with a bias in petrology or PhD in Geophyics subsequent to a Bachelor of Science Degree with Credit from a reputable and accredited institution.

Some working experience in the area of geophyical mapping and petrology will be an added advantage
Duties and responsibilities
Successful candidates for this position will be undertaking, among others, the following duties:

Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Conducting research in their area of specialization.

Participating in departmental, school, and university-wide committees.

Being part of academic consultants within the broader areas of the department.

Participating in outreach programs of the department.
