Dr. Peter Namphande possesses a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Malawi obtained in 2017. Part of his PhD study was undertaken at the University of Ulster, United Kingdom, courtesy of a Commonwealth Split-site scholarship. He also holds a Master of Philosophy from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
Before assuming the position of Acting Executive Dean of School of Education, Dr Namphande served as Head of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching Studies. He has also served the University of Malawi in several other positions inluding Teaching Practice Coordinator, Deputy Head of Department of Curriculum and Teaching Studies Department, and Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor of Education (Primary) programme.
As an academic, Dr Namphande has won various awards, grants and study scholarships. Before joining the University of Malawi, Dr Namphande worked with the Ministry of Education as a Principal Education Methods Advisor, and Senior Education Methods Advisor (currently renamed as Principal Quality Assurance Officer and Senior Quality Assurance Officer respectively) and as Secondary School Teacher.
Outside the university, he has contributed to the education sector through curriculum development and materials development, having worked in syllabus development panels, as well as panels for the development of teaching and learning resources such as Handbooks for Critical Thinking in Education in Malawi; and Climate Change Sourcebook for Teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools. He has conducted a lot of training sessions on Learner-Centred Education for Teacher Educators and Teachers; and Active Teaching and Learning Strategies.
