MASTER OF ARTS IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES FULL TIME
The Faculty of Social Science at Chancellor College is pleased to invite applications for a 24-month full-time multidisciplinary programme of study leading to the award of the degree of Master of Arts in Development Studies which commences in October, 2016.
PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
The programme consists of two components which students will be required to complete successfully, namely a taught coursework component in the first academic year, followed by the preparation of an examinable thesis in the second year.
The coursework will be undertaken in two semesters during which a total of 8 courses will be completed from the following list: Theories of Development, Development Economics, Research Methods for Development, Rural Development, Political Economy of Development, African Economic History, Policy Analysis and Economic Management, Development Administration, Human Resources Management and Development, and Gender and Development.
PREREQUISITES FOR ADMISSION
Applicants should have a strong bachelor’s degree in a development-related area. Applicants with a good pass degree must have some relevant working experience.
FEES
The total fees payable per student for the entire programme are as follows:

K3,000,000.00 for Malawian students (payable in Malawi Kwacha)

US$8,000.00 for foreign students
The fees cover the costs of registration, tuition, supervision, examination, and institutional overheads. Students are expected to meet the costs of research, books, stationary and related learning materials, accommodation, meals, and medical care.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Eligible applicants should submit their application which must include the following: one letter of application, three copies of completed application forms (University of Malawi PG1 form), curriculum vitae, two academic references, copies of certificates, diplomas and degrees, original copies of academic transcripts, and a copy of an application fee deposit slip. Preference will be given to eligible applicants who will present credible evidence of funding for their studies. Those who were already admitted to the programme but had their places reserved need to apply for re-admission.
