The Department of Entrepreneurship and Creative Industry responds to Malawi’s recognition of the central role of the entrepreneurship, culture and creative industries as a vehicle for growth and development. It is in this spirit that culture and creative industries became part of Malawi’s Development and Growth Strategy 2011-2016 (MGDS II: 35,133) and entrepreneurship was underscored in the Malawi’s’ Development and Growth Strategy 2017-2022 (MGDS III: 16).
The goal of the Department is to transform students into specialists in how entrepreneurship and creative industries operate and contribute to growth and development. The department adopts a traditional understanding of creative industries as the “activities which have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have the potential for wealth and job creation through generation and exploitation of intellectual property.”
The Department has a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Industries programme, and a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Entrepreneurship programme.
