The Department of Mathematics and Science Education aims at producing teachers that significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of any country. The department developed from the Mathematics and Science section of what was previously known as the Curriculum and Teaching Studies (CATS) department. All the postgraduate programmes, including the University Certificate of Education, and Bachelor of Education (Primary) are housed within the School of Education while all the other undergraduate programmes are offered in conjunction with the School of Natural and Applied Sciences for the content courses.
Currently the Mathematics and Science Education department offers the following undergraduate programmes: Bachelor of Education Science, Bachelor of Education (Primary), Bachelor of Education (Biology), Bachelor of Education (Chemistry), Bachelor of Education (Computer Science), Bachelor of Education (Mathematics), and Bachelor of Education (Physics). The Department also offers the following postgraduate programmes: Master of Education (Mathematics and Science), Doctor of Philosophy (Mathematics Education), Doctor of Philosophy (Science Education). The Department also offers the University Certificate in Education (UCE).
