UNIMA and NBS Bank Sign MoU to Enhance Workplace Banking Services

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Malawi, Professor Samson Sajidu, has today, 18th June 2025, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNIMA and NBS Bank. This agreement aims to enhance the welfare of UNIMA staff by providing improved workplace banking services through NBS Bank. The signing ceremony was held at the University of Malawi Boardroom, marking a significant highlight in the ongoing partnership between the two institutions.

Although the relationship between the two institutions has existed for many years, today's event marks an important step forward. The MoU focuses on workplace banking and will, among other things, enable UNIMA staff to access loans from NBS Bank at reduced interest rates.

“This is a great day for both institutions,” said Mrs. Victoria Chanza, Chief Retail Banking Officer at NBS Bank. “We have signed the MoU mainly to enhance workplace banking. As a bank, we already have a strong relationship with UNIMA. If you come to UNIMA, you’ll find that we have an on-campus branch. We also provide fee collection services for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Today is simply another milestone in this ongoing partnership.”

Professor Sajidu highlighted the importance of such financial services in improving staff welfare, which ultimately contributes to staff retention.

“We are very excited as a university because this agreement promotes the welfare of our staff,” he said. “There are a number of products outlined in the MoU that will benefit our staff members.”

Both UNIMA and NBS Bank expressed their enthusiasm about the signing of the MoU, viewing it as a significant step toward strengthening their long-standing relationship. They also expressed hope for continued collaboration in the future. As UNIMA continues to engage with various industry stakeholders, such partnerships are vital to enhancing the overall well-being of staff and improving the quality of services and opportunities available to the student community.
