Dr Edrinnie Elizabeth Kayambazinthu is a Professor of Linguistics in the Department of African Languages and Linguistics, specialising in sociolinguistics. Her research interests include language variation, patterns of language use, language planning, language and gender; and family language and multilingualism. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics from La Trobe University, Victoria State in Australia, a Master’s Degree in English Language Teaching from Warwick University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Malawi. She has held several administrative positions at the University of Malawi: as Head of the English Department, Head of African Languages and Linguistics, Dean of Humanities, Senator and University of Malawi Council member. She is currently the UNIMA Acting Director of Quality Assurance since 2016 to date. Professor Kayambazinthu has over 39 years experience of in lecturing and 25 years of consulting, including research and facilitating training programmes and workshops. Apart from lecturing, she has received extensive training in quality assurance in higher education, corporate governance and risk management. She has been a board member on various corporate and NGO Boards for over 20 years, an external examiner, a journal reviewer and a member of various editorial boards.
