Chisapi Boys Secondary School tours UNIMA

On Friday, 4th October, 2024, a group of 55 students from Chisapi Boys Secondary School in Blantyre had an exciting opportunity to tour the University of Malawi. During their visit, the students, all of whom are in Form 2, explored several key facilities at UNIMA, including the Department of Geography, Earth Sciences and Environment and the Department of Physics and Electronics, gaining insight into the practical applications of their studies.

At the Physics and Electronics Department, Mr. Diverson Kashe, a laboratory technician, showcased an innovative demonstration of how a rocket works. This captivated the students and left them with a memorable experience. He encouraged those interested in physics and electronics to come to UNIMA and explore the fascinating world of physics, emphasizing that what they witnessed was just a glimpse of what the department has to offer.

Dr. Tiyesere Chikapa, the Head of Leadership and Management Studies Department, engaged the students during a career talk, encouraging them to set ambitious goals and strive for excellence in their academic pursuits. She emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication as vital steps toward achieving their goals.

According to Mr. Francis Chide, the Deputy Headmaster, this was not the first time students from the school had visited the university. Over the years, the school has brought different groups of students to UNIMA to help them become familiar with the university and its diverse programmes, a move that has contributed to the school’s strong performance.

As the tour continued, the young men had the chance to interact with a group of students participating in a lively Sip and Paint event at the Fine Arts Department. This provided the visiting students with a glimpse into university life, through the vibrant social and creative activities that are part of the campus experience.

The visit not only inspired the Form 2 students but also sparked their curiosity about future career opportunities at the university. UNIMA remains open to educational visits from both primary and secondary schools. Such visits motivate the students who later on become part of UNIMA students’ community.
