WORLD BANK LAUNCHES MALAWI ECONOMIC MONITOR AT CHANCELLOR COLLEGE
The Monitor provides an analysis of economic and structural development issues in Malawi. It is aimed at fostering better informed policy analysis and debate regarding the key challenges that Malawi faces in the endeavor to achieve high rates of inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The launch of the MEM highlighted the turbulent times the economy is facing and how education in particular can be improved.
The Principal of Chancellor College, Prof. Richard Tambulasi graced the occasion. In his speech, he put emphasis on how the Bank can use the College’s students to conduct research on critical issues affecting the economy which can be used in the MEM series. The Principal also hinted on a possible collaboration between the Bank and the College staff on research papers to obtain empirical evidence for policy recommendations. Speaking on behalf of the Bank, Senior Economist, Dr. Richard Record, stressed on the importance of sharing research findings with students and researchers. He further indicated that choosing Chancellor College for the launch is in keeping with the Bank’s goal of sharing knowledge.
