University of Malawi’ School of Law, Economics and Government in the department Public Law and Clinical Legal Education invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill two posts of Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor tenable at University of Malawi in Zomba.

Qualifications

  1. Applicants for the post of Assistant Lecturer must have a Bachelor of Laws (Honors) Upper second-class degree from a recognized University.

  2. Applicants for the post of Lecturer must hold a Bachelor of Laws (Honors) Upper second-class degree and a Master’s Degree in Law (LLM) from a recognized University and relevant to duties listed below.

  3. Applicants for the post of Senior Lecturer must have a Bachelor of Laws (Honors) Upper second-class degree, an LLM from a recognized University and a good record of publications in their field of expertise relevant to the duties listed below.

  4. Applicants for the posts of Associate Professor or Professor must have a Bachelor of Laws (Honors) Upper second-class degree; an LLM; and a doctorate degree from recognized Universities. The candidates must also have a good record of publications in their field of expertise and must provide evidence of initiative in research.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities shall include:

  1. Teaching, setting and timely marking examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the public law and clinical legal education courses including:

  1. Law of Evidence;

  2. Law of Drafting;

  3. Civil Procedure;

  4. Legal research methods and writing;

  5. Governance and Law;

  1. Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate student projects and clinical work;

  2. Participating in all academic and professional activities of the Department;

  3. Conducting research in the area of specialization;

  4. Participating in community outreach activities;

  5. Initiating research projects, grants writing and consultancies;

  6. Initiating and participating in resource mobilization activities;

  7. Carrying out any duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department and the Executive Dean from time to time.

Mode of Application

  1. A detailed Curriculum Vitae with names of three traceable referees;

  2. Certified copies of relevant certificates;

  3. An indication of courses to teach and research agenda;

  4. A writing sample and/or relevant publication
