Ceramic Technician (um 11) (1 position)

Qualifications and Attributes

Applicants must be holders of a minimum of Diploma in Ceramics, or Fine Arts, or Pottery, or related field. In addition, applicants must have at least three years’ experience in industrial ceramics production, processes and entrepreneurship at a recognised institution. Applicants with vast experience in the ceramic industry, plus qualifications in other relevant fields such as marketing, business administration, or electrical installation, may be considered.

Applicants must further demonstrate advanced knowledge of working on the potter’s wheel, in an electric kiln, and on raw material processing equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Ceramic Technician’s key responsibilities shall include:

  • Overseeing daily operations and general cleanliness of the ceramics studio and facilities

  • Managing studio processes, practice regulations, and ensuring compliance with policies and industrial safety procedures

  • Managing and overseeing firing schedules while adhering to student working days’ schedules and timeframes.

  • Taking inventory of tools, equipment and materials, and their requisition.

  • Supervise and guide the production of decorative and utilitarian artworks for commercial purposes.

  • Assist in identifying markets for pottery and other products in the Department.

  • Carrying out clay body preparation and glaze formulation, and ensuring availability of required material to lecturers, students and visiting artists.

  • Providing necessary technical assistance relating to teaching and student projects.

  • Undertaking maintenance and general repairs of all equipment and accessories in conjunction with the Maintenance Department.

  • Participating in the Department’s income-generating activities and exhibitions where necessary.

  • Any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor and Head of Department from time to time.
