Laboratory Technician/ChiefLaboratoryTechnician in Food and Nutrition
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the post of Laboratory Technician / Chief Laboratory Technician tenable in the Human Ecology and Agricultural Sciences Department in the School of Natural and Applied Sciences at the University of Malawi.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Food and Nutrition, or Laboratory Technology, or a Bachelor of Education degree majoring in Home Economics/Human Ecology with experience working as a Laboratory Technician in a food and nutrition laboratory working with students at an academic institution recognized by the University of Malawi. Those with a bachelor’s degree with a credit, a distinction, or a relevant Master’s degree will have an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:

Planning, preparing, and conducting laboratory sessions.

Manage laboratories and inventories of utensils, equipment, and chemicals.

Organise and buy raw materials for the laboratories.

Provision of high-level support to undergraduate and postgraduate students and research projects for both staff and students.

Supervision of technical and support staff.

Any other related duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department from time to time.
The successful candidate should be prepared to work during odd hours, holidays, and weekends when the need arises.
