Research associate: Bridging Accountability for Gender Equality in Education (AGEE) Project. Department of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education (SMTE)
The University of Malawi is inviting applications from qualified and interested individuals for the position of Research Fellow under the Bridging Accountability for Gender Equality in Education (AGEE) Project. The position is based in the Department of Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education within the School of Education. Only one position is available. This is a one-year contract, renewable based on performance and subject to the continuation of the project.
Qualifications
Appointment is dependent upon holding a PhD in a relevant field. The person should have good working knowledge of the Ministry of Education and the Malawi education system. Knowledge of issues of gender and education is an added advantage.
Duties and responsibilities

Delivering, in consultation with the Malawi project lead, on the planning, running and reflecting on the research activities for the Bridging AGEE project in Malawi, as set out in the project work plan, specifically (i) documentation of the January 2025 National AGEE Workshop, and preparation for, participation in and documentation of National AGEE workshops planned for June 2025, 2026; (ii) preparation for, participation in and documentation of four neighborhood AGEE workshops ( 2025-2026); (iii) discussions with the Advisory Committee and taking forward initiatives suggested by the AC, particularly with regard to the AI project and any other suggestions that fall within the project work plan.

Sourcing, reviewing and critically analysing relevant literature from a wide range of scholarly and policy/practice-related sources.

Analysing qualitative and quantitative data from surveys, interviews, focus groups, participatory accounts of meetings and digitally scanned curriculum materials from the three countries.

Writing up and disseminating the results of research in research reports, policy briefs, media engagements and academic publications, as joint and sole author.

Contributing to the development and maintenance of the project databases with respect to the storing of qualitative, quantitative and bibliographic data.

Contributing to, and helping to organise, dissemination activities including public seminars, stakeholder meetings and conferences.

Supporting the development and maintenance of the project website and other web-based sources of information about the project.

Engaging in research capacity-building activities, in collaboration with other project researchers.

Collaborating with the research associates in Kenya and Indonesia in reviewing data collection, data analysis and dissemination activities,

Liaising with the AGEE Advisory Committee, UNESCO, and other partners in generating impact from the project.

Contribute to applications for future research and impact funding.
In addition, the post holder will be expected to:

carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
