CENTRE DIRECTOR - CERT
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the post of Director tenable at Centre for Educational Research and Training (CERT).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Dean of Faculty of Education, the Director will be expected to fulfill a range of functions aimed at strengthening, extending and promoting research, research training activities and linkages at national and international level and lead in coordinating departments and faculties’ in conducting research required for improving quality of education within the University as follows:-

Supporting high quality research which contributes to University objectives.

Fostering collaborative and interdisciplinary research efforts between individuals and research teams within and outside the Faculty and College.

Establishing and maintaining national and international links with individuals and teams conducting research in similar or complementary fields.

Providing opportunities for the professional development of staff.

Strengthening the links between research activities and teaching within the various Faculties and Departments of the University.

Complementing and enriching the postgraduate training programmes of the University.

Facilitating commissioned research activities on behalf of Government, industry and other stakeholders within and outside Malawi.

Mobilising resources to help support the University research agenda.

Providing leadership in the implementation of the strategic plans of the Centre.

Overseeing effective project implementation of all projects running through the Center.

Initiating recruitment and development of staff in the Centre;

Representing the Centre at various fora;
-
Reporting Centre activities to the Faculty Board and Postgraduate Studies and Research.
Qualifications and Competences

Postgraduate Degree, preferably a PhD in a relevant field from a recognized University
-
Thorough understanding and experience in carrying out relevant research for at least 4 years.

Demonstrated leadership and team building skills in management of research projects (not only consultancies).

Demonstrated high level of professionalism and maturity, and ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks in a team comprising professionals with varying demands.

Experience in interacting with senior government officials, local and international donors.
