DIRECTOR OF STUDENT AFFAIRS

Reporting direct to the Vice-Chancellor, the Director of Students Affairs will be responsible for the operational management and administrative direction of student affairs. The Director will ensure that the University has a conducive environment for the student experience and guidance for life beyond the University. As a member of the University’ Executive Management, the Director will ensure that the University’s Strategy as agreed by Council is implemented. This is a demanding, but rewarding position suited to a highly motivated, solution-focused and astute strategic leader.

Duties and Functions of Director of Student Affairs

    • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction with respect to policies, practices, systems and operations in student affairs;

    • Create a conducive environment in student engagement, campus life and retention goals;

    • Provide counselling, academic support and career guidance to students;

    • Handle complaints, grievances and student conflict resolution;

    • Register of student groups;

    • Manage budgets and resources of the directorate including Student Representative Council resources.

Qualifications

    • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Education, Sociology, Counselling, Psychology or other relevant degree from an institution accredited or recognised under the National Council of Higher Education Act;

    • Five (5) years’ experience, after obtaining the Master’s degree, in a management position in a higher education institution.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills;

    • Must have integrity and transparency

    • Holds himself/herself to high ethical and moral standards.

The Director of Student Affairs shall be appointed for a term of five years. Subject to satisfactory performance, he/she may be eligible for re-appointment for one further term. For serving tenured employees of the University who are appointed to these positions in accordance with the Act and statues of the University, they shall be appointed on secondment basis.

REMUNERATION
