Research Fellows at the Centre for Social Research

Job Description

Reporting to the Deputy Director who is the Head of Research and Training at CSR, the Research Fellow will undertake the following activities:

  • Developing proposals for research projects which will make significant impacts, and lead to an increase in knowledge, understanding and the development of new explanations, insights, concepts or processes.

  • Conducting and managing a specific programme of research and scholarship as part of the CSR’s research portfolio.

  • Taking a leading role in the further development of the research programme and in seeking and pursuing appropriate external funding.

  • Working independently and autonomously on a number of research and policy projects simultaneously including networking with both local and international partners.

  • Contributing towards the development and running of CSR short courses.

  • Producing high quality reports and peer-reviewed academic publications of international standing based on the analysis of data and literature with a clear and engaging writing style.

  • Presenting papers and reports based on policy and research work to policy makers, academics and other audiences including the media as well as in the CSR in house seminar series.

  • Engaging in teaching as stipulated in the contract of employment, mentor and assist students and early researchers in his or her research programme.

  • Engaging in appropriate training and professional development activities as required by CSR.

  • Contributing to the development of the overall CSR research strategies and themes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Masters degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of three years post qualification experience.

  • Solid experience in proposal development, production of academic publications such as books, journal articles, policy briefs, working papers etc.

  • Proven track record in policy, consultancy and academic research administrative and managerial skills.

  • Experience in working with government agencies, development partners, local and international NGOs.
