TELEVISION SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER

Television sign language interpreter performs various functions which primarily entail helping hearing impaired individuals comprehend what they are watching.

TASKS AND DUTIES

• Providing a full range of interpreting/ translating service deaf/hard of hearing viewers

• Utilising skills in a variety of signed languages and contact sign to facilitate communication

• Interpret any conversation such as programs and news presentation, interviews or any other requested event, including providing oral interpretation to workmates who do not use sign language

• Responsible for all incoming client interpreting service requests.

• Scheduling time for interpreting service following viewer’s requirements

• Enlightening supervisors and staff on Deaf Culture and interpreter services

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent and Certificate or Diploma from an Interpreter Training Program.

• Must have broad knowledge and understanding of media communication skills

• Excellent communication and interpretation skills

• Flexible and team player

• Those who have worked or are currently working on same position as sign language interpreter can apply
